IOC Taxonomic Reference List of Toxic Plankton Algae, HAB Bibliography, now available. |
The
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (IOC-UNESCO) in concert with the Aquatic
Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts has produced a bibliographic database on
Harmful Algal Bloom species. The bibliography contains more than 6000 references
on potentially harmful algae covering 1978-99. More recent citations will
be supplemented to the list soon. Some earlier selected references dating
back to 1927 are included. During the International Harmful Algal Bloom Conference 2000 in Tasmania , a Task Team on Algal Taxonomy was convened to provide an agreed upon reference list of harmful algal species. The list of eukaryotic algae was completed in 2002. The cyanobacteria (bluegreen algae) will be added when the list of freshwater HABs has been completed. The Committee hopes to extend the list during the coming years as additional information becomes available. The list to date can be found at: https://ioc.unesco.org/hab/data4taxlist.htm. |
