Mahogany tide found in the Coastal Bays. |

Prorocentrum was found in the St. Martin River, Turville and Herring Creeks in the Coastal Bays. Concentrations were typically low except for one sample in the St. Martin River on April 29th when we found densities of 22,253 cells per ml. Prorocentrum is not considered to be a human health threat. Large and persistent algal blooms associated with Prorocentrum can lead to low oxygen conditions in the water and negatively affect habitat for submerged aquatic vegetation, fish and shellfish in the area. Find out additional information on Prorocentrum.
