Herring Bay Algal Bloom |
Discolored waters were reported from Herring Bay in southern Anne Arundel county on Tuesday June 11th. On Wednesday, June 12th , a water sample was collected from Herring Bay near the shores of the Fairhaven community and showed an algal bloom was present containing the dinoflagellate Heterocapsa rotundata at 31,353 cells/milliliter as the dominant organism (84% of all phytoplankton in the sample). The species is not known to pose any human health risks. |
