Low levels of Chattonella in the Coastal Bays

The first observations for 2001 on Chattonella were recorded from monitoring samples collected from the Coastal Bays (Ayer Creek and Newport Bay) on June 20. Densities in the two samples were very low (53 cells/milliliter). Chattonella was also observed during the summer in the Coastal Bays in 2000. There has been no evidence of toxic activity by this species in Maryland.
