West River Mahogany Tide report. |
On 5/27/03, Captain
Jim Brincefield collected a water sample from dark brown waters at Green
day marker 16 on the West River. The Mahogany Tide organism Prorocentrum
minimum was identified by Maryland DNR in the water sample at
bloom concentrations of 64,660 cells/ml. Mahogany Tide has been identified
from the Lower Patuxent River to the Bay Bridge region along the western
shore and Bay Bridge south into the Choptank River on the Eastern Shore.
Many reports from boaters and fisherman this spring have helped to fill
in the distribution of Mahogany Tide identified through the Chesapeake
Bay water quality monitoring program and plankton identification conducted
by the Maryland DNR, the Academy of Natural Sciences Estuarine Research
Center, and Maryland Department of the Environment. |
