Pfiesteria detected in Chicamacomico River; no evidence of toxicity.

Nine of 14 routine samples collected on Middle River 7/16/01 were positive for Pfiesteria piscicida. Also, one sample on the Chicamacomico River collected 7/24/01 as part of a special survey for Chattonella was positive for Pfiesteria piscicida. This brings the total for the year to 20 positives out of 367 samples analyzed (5.4%) from the Chesapeake and Coastal Bays.
