Chattonella cf. verrruculosa in the Coastal Bays,
St. Martin River.

Chattonella cf. verruculosa was present at elevated densities of 18,815/ml on August 6th in the St. Martin River. The station is the site of Maryland DNR’s Continuous Water Quality Monitoring meter in Bishopville Prong on the Upper St. Martin's River. While Chattonella blooms have been associated with fish kills and brevetoxin (a neurotoxin) production as near as the Delaware coastal Bays in the United States, no fish kills were reported in this region coincident with the elevated Chattonella concentrations.
