Pfiesteria findings from Routine Monitoring in the Middle River.

As of July 30th, DNR had collected and Dr. David Oldachs laboratory (University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute) had analyzed 360 routine water samples for Pfiesteria spp. using genetic probes. Most of the recent positives have been in the Coastal Bays and Back Creek on the Manokin River. Middle River, a hot spot for positive test results in June, tested negative for Pfiesteria in July There have been 32 (9%) positive samples: Chesapeake Bay systems - Middle River (15), Chicamacomico / Transquaking system (6), Pokata Creek (1), Manokin River system (3), Magothy River (1) and in the Coastal Bays - Marshall Creek (2), Trappe / Ayer Creek system (4). No toxic Pfiesteria events have been recorded this year.
