Jabez Independent Observer

Photo headshot of Dr. Matt BakerMatt Baker holds a PhD in Aquatic Ecology (2002) and an MS in Forest Ecology (1996) both from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has more than 28 years of field experience sampling and measuring streams and analyzing ecological data. Since 2008, he has been a Professor of Geography and Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Prior to that he was an Assistant Professor of Watershed Sciences at Utah State University and a Research Ecologist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. Dr. Baker has served as an expert witness in federal and circuit court cases dealing with degradation and restoration of aquatic habitat and held appointments as a Research Professor with the U.S. Geological Survey and as a Maryland Fellow with the National Socio-Ecological Research Center. He currently serves as a member of the Science and Technology Advisory Committee to the Chesapeake Bay Program.

Dr. Baker was brought on as an independent observer to help ensure the efficacy of the methodologies and accuracy of the data collected during monitoring of this new complex project that involves many contributing partners
